Porsche GT2 RS: The fastest 911 ever built

Porsche GT2 RS: The fastest 911 ever builtPorsche announced the official Nurburgring Nordschleife lap time of the new Porsche 911 GT2 RS. We already heard some rumors, saying that the car is under 7 minutes, but there’s something else we had no idea about, how much under? The GT2 RS has lapped the Green Hell in 6 minutes 47.3 seconds. And it’s not like Porsche 911 GT2 RS broke a sweat doing that unbelievably quick time.

1506511869525
Porsche test drivers have been doing steady sub 7-minute laps for a while. Lars Kern (30) from Germany and Nick Tandy (32) from the UK broke the previous record for road-approved sports cars (6 minutes, 52.01 seconds) in their first attempt and subsequently finished five laps in under 6 minutes, 50 seconds. The actual record was set by Tandy whose usual ‘office’ is the Le Mans prototype Porsche 919 Hybrid. Even with a bit of jet lag – he’d just arrived from Texas – the man managed to bang in that excellent time which is a testament to the capabilities of the GT2 RS. In case you have forgotten,the 1,470 kg 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS packs a colossal 700-hp from a biturbo flat-six engine.

US automakers to reveal increase in sales after the floods

US automakers to reveal increase in sales after the floods: The U.S. automakers have been facing 2 crucial problems after the two storms that battered parts of Texas and Florida: bulging new-vehicle inventories and an oversupply of off-lease vehicles. This Tuesday, they will reveal their car sales for September, but we are already convinced that their shares will be higher than ever, thanks to the demand for vehicles to replace those damaged and destroyed by Houston’s floods.

Flood-Damaged-Cars-In-Thailandme

Analysts expect September to show the first monthly increase in vehicle sales this year -- though their previous forecasts of sales gains for the industry in March, May and August proved inaccurate. Any increase likely would be minimal; Edmunds projects a 0.4 percent rise, and Kelley Blue Book expects a 0.7 percent gain. However, either amount would be enough to push the industry's annualized selling rate to 17.5 million units -- the highest of the year. During the height of the storm, online car searchesin Houston were down 25 percent -- from an Aug. 4 baseline -- but as of Sept. 17 were up 18 percent.

Audi employee arrested in Germany

Prosecutors in Munich have arrested a second Audi employee in connection with the automaker’s diesel emissions scandal and increased the number of suspects in a related investigation. They have also searched personal premises, a spokeswoman said on Thursday. Audi offices were not part of the raid, she said.
Audi admitted in November 2015, two months after parent Volkswagen Group’s diesel emissions scandal broke, that its 3.0-liter V-6 diesel engines were fitted with an auxiliary control device deemed illegal in the United States. U.S. authorities are seeking to extradite a former Audi manager arrested in July in connection with the diesel investigation. Read more

3 Best Family Cars for 2017

When we decide to buy a good family car we always want it to be practical, cheap to run, good to drive, well equipped and good value for money; in other words, it needs to be good at everything. Here are the best family cars to buy.
Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid
That we had a difficult time deciding between the Pacifica Hybrid and the Honda Odyssey shows just how far Chrysler has come with its new minivan. On its own, the Pacifica minivan is very, very good. It’s a phenomenally useful package that’s prettier than any minivan needs to be with interior materials and build quality that rival the best in class. The power sliding doors and liftgate that seem silly to your younger self are transformative when paired with an armful of wriggling baby. But that’s old hat for minivans, what really sets the Pacifica apart is the powertrain. Read more

DSD Design Motorsport launches its first hypercar: The Boreas

DSD Design Motorsport launches its first hypercar: The Boreas: There’s a new Spanish firm called DSD Design Motorsport and it comes up with a surprise for the car enthusiasts a new hypercar, and if we judge by these pictures than the car is almost done. Named after a virile Greek god, the Boreas claims some serious numbers

Screenshot_2.png

It’s all very interesting because the company behind Boreas, according to their Instagram, is more like a start-up that would make smartphone apps or mobile games to rival Candy Crush. But they have gone and made this rather magnificent thing and they seem serious about putting it into production. While official details have not yet been confirmed, the Boreas wish list includes a hybrid powertrain with a beefy engine and electric motor that generates one thousand horsepower, offers selectable four-wheel-drive, and iseven capable of driving for a bit solely on electricity.

How fast can we expect EVs to increase market share in the U.S.?

How fast can we expect EVs to increase market share in the U.S.?: Rising commitment from major automakers, rapid battery cost declines, strong policy support from state and local governments, and low operational costs have put electric vehicles on track to pass gasoline-powered vehiclesEV sales in U.S. have grown to an average of 32% annually from 2012-2016 and 45% over the year ending June 2017.

Considering these advantages, automakers and investors face several big questions: How fast can we expect EVs to increase market share in the United States?  What penetration will they achieve, by when?  How will these outcomes be affected by external factors like oil prices and government policy support? Energy Innovation has released an updated version of the Energy Policy Simulator (EPS) computer model.

Porsche targets on delivering around 600 Sport Turismos

Porsche targets on delivering around 600 Sport Turismos: In case you’ve been afraid for the future of Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo, stop! We at RepoKar.com are pretty sure it’s gonna be bright, cause the order rates are going by. US buyers are choosing the “niche within a niche” wagon so often that the model now makes up 10 per cent of all Panamera orders – right at the upper edge of Porsche’s most hopeful estimate when the car was launched to the press.

panamera_turismo_15.jpg

The UK’s order books aren’t quite open yet, but Porsche GB has told us that a proportion of 10 per cent is about what they’re hoping for. With fast estates having a bit more of a history and following this side of the Pond, we’d expect Porsche not to be disappointed. Deliveries of the unusual estate will start in the first quarter of 2018, and in the US it will be followed by the first Panamera with a conventional rear bench seat, in response to dealer feedback that customers were bypassing the brand in search of luxury five-seaters from rival car makers.

The car industry is waiting for its own

The car industry is waiting for its own: We’ve been waiting for something to change dramatically the automotive industry, just like the iPhone did to the mobile industry 10 years ago, and that one thing that could make it all different is the electrification of cars.

24_feu089_dossier_electrification_strategy_illu_1_bmw.jpg

The rise of Tesla and its rivals could be boosted by complementary services from Uber and Alphabet's Waymo unit, just as the iPhone rode the app economy and fast mobile internet to decimate mobile phone giants like Nokia. The culmination of these technologies — autonomous electric cars available on demand — could transform how people travel and confound predictions that battery-powered vehicles will have a limited impact on oil demand in the coming decades.

Only 5% of job seekers are ready to work in the automotive industry

Only 5% of job seekers are ready to work in the automotive industry: The average annual turnover for sales people in the automotive business is 67%. Also, it’s important to notice that this job is not the one job seekers are interested in. Only about a quarter of them in the industry would also be interested in selling jobs at a dealership.

Car dealer giving key to new car owner

If you’re a dealer, you think, ‘Why would I want to invest in people if they’re going to quit? But they quit because of a lack of training. So it’s a case of the chicken or the egg.” Of the 800 job seekers surveyed, 5 percent said they’d be interested in working in the automotive industry, but of that, only a quarter said they would want to work in a dealership, Helms said. “But when you start talking about other roles in a dealership besides sales, interest increased.

AeroMobil's flying car gets a hybrid version

AeroMobil's flying car gets a hybrid version: Of course this year’s Frankfurt motor show has seen a various numbers of automobiles, which differ by colors, shape and their features. But even in place with hundreds of cars, there was one which you couldn’t skip, because it’s much more different. This hybrid deploys a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is used to drive an electric front wheel drive system that uses two electric motors and an electric differential for a total 110 horsepower ... which also has a wingspan of 8,800 mm.

While the AeroMobil from the Bratislava-based company of the same name is a car that goes from 0 62 miles per hour in what the company says is in 10 seconds and a top speed of 100 mph, it is also a two-passenger aircraft with a maximum cruising range of some 466 miles. When the vehicle is being used as an aircraft rather than a motor vehicle, the turbocharged engine provides approximately 300 horsepower to the rear-mounted, direct-drive, variable pitch propeller.

This is how you can avoid buying a flood-damaged used car

As we’re only halfway through the hurricane season, it might be a good time to review the basics of how to avoid buying a flood-damaged used car. The most important thing to understand is the fact, that no good can come from flood damageCars today are rolling computer systems, laden with electronics, from engine control units to airbag circuitry to the heaters in your seats. That alone makes for serious trouble when a car has been immersed — engine, mechanical and body issues aside. And even if a vehicle looks or performs well now, that might not be the case a year or two from now when corrosion sets in. Here is some advice for anyone buying a used car in the coming months:
1. Check: Is the car from out of state? Cars are often transported away from flood zones to areas where there is less awareness of the issue. Which is smart, right? A couple of months from now, you’ll have forgotten all about the hurricanes. Carfax offers a free flood damage check, based partly on where the car has previously been registered.
2. Check under the hood. Does the crankcase oil look properly clear or dark? Or is it more the color of chocolate milk? Read more

BMW is reviewing the necessity of car keys

Ian Robertson, the company’s board member responsible for sales, says BMW might get rid of car keys. The fact that customers now all carry a smartphone and the availability of a BMW App which allows them to unlock their car, has made old fashioned keys less relevant.
In an interview at the Frankfurt car show, Robertson explained that customers no longer had to put the key in the ignition to make the vehicle start. BMW is currently conducting feasibility studies of such tech, but no introduction date has been put forth as yet. The Bavarian company isn’t the first to come up with this, though. Early last year, Volvo announced the same plans and detailed some of its benefits, including “sharing” the digital key with family members and friends via smartphones. Read more

The GT version of the 570 - with its increased luggage space and slightly softer set-up relative to the 570S - is already a strong fantasy garage contender, but thanks to a splash of green paint, orange accents and Saddle Tan leather, we’re overcome with want for this particular example.

2018 Volvo XC40 revealed a week ahead of the official unveiling

Two months ago the German website for Volvo slipped and accidentally released a partial image of the new 2018 Volvo XC40. This time, thanks to another leak, we have a full look of the entire vehicle. It’s nice, and it stuck incredibly close to the concept. The new small SUV was initially only shown in a teaser trailer, which obscured the car more, but surprisingly, the full uncut version was posted online as well.
The car looks a lot like the 40 Concept released more than a year ago. Volvo said it wanted to deliver a more “youthful” spirit to the car, based off its Compact Modular Architecture. It definitely has a lively appeal to it. The interior looks sleek and clean, with a digital instrument cluster and center console and what appears to be a wireless charging slot. The creepiest cars at the 2017 Hell’s Hearse Fest

The creepiest cars at the 2017 Hell’s Hearse Fest: Don’t hurry up to think that something horrible has happened when you see dozens of hearses in one place, it might be the annual Hell’s Hearse Fest. The latest festival happened this Saturday in Michigan. In case you’re into cars and macabre, this event is your place to be present at.

It's our own morbid curiosity that brought us here, but the rest of the fest-goers are clearly comfortable outright celebrating funerary rides. Each vehicle here has been in service at some point, either as a hearse, a combination car (which like Ecto 1 in the original "Ghostbusters" were designed to fulfill both hearse and ambulance duties) or as a flower car.

The 2018 Audi R8 V10 RWS

The 2018 Audi R8 V10 RWS: When we say Audi R8 we think of that amazing supercar with a beacon of stability and common sense, that’s why when we’ve heard about this new Rear Wheel Drive Edition we thought things would become too different, in not the best way. New self-driving test van talks to pedestrians using light signals

Ford Motor Co. has designed a light signal system for autonomous cars that company officials say helps solve the problem of self-driving cars safely interacting with pedestrians, bicyclists and human drivers. Ford engineers said they hope tests results from real-world encounters will pave the way for standardization and industry-wide adoption.
The white light display, located at the top of the windshield, is designed to communicate intent to yield way or accelerate from a stop, which today is done through hand gestures, head nods and eye contact. The display’s color and location were chosen to comply with federal motor vehicle safety standards and not create confusion with other light signals on the vehicle. The cue for yielding to a full stop is two white lights that move side to side. Read more

Aspark Owl: The car which deserves much more attention

Aspark Owl: The car which deserves much more attentionOf course that at major auto shows such as the one which took place this weekend in Frankfurt, people mostly look at the most popular car brands, but you know what? Sometimes the most obscure motors deserve even more attention, that’s exactly what this Aspark Owl is about.

466
Take the Aspark Owl for instance. Competing with ‘Thunder Power’ (yes, that’s a real company) for the worst car name at Frankfurt this year, it’s an electric hypercar which – incredibly – is just 39 inches tall. Yep, an inch shorter than the spectacularly low-slung Ford GT40. Under its carbonfibre skin you’ll find an electric drivetrain – the details of which haven’t yet been divulged – that’s good for 1000bhp.

Borgward comes back with an insane-looking electric car concept

Have you ever heard of Borgward? Well, it was a German carmaker up until 1961 that was dusted off after a half century of slumber, now combining German engineering with Chinese money. After launching a pair of SUVs in China, the brand is ready to make a splash back home, revealing its stunning Isabella Concept coupe in Frankfurt.
isabella-interior-01-1
Evoking the shapes of the achingly beautiful Isabella coupe made during the company’s final years in the late 1950s and the early 1960s, the new concept exhibited at Frankfurt combines the two-tone color palettes of yesteryear to a flowing and flamboyant modern concept car penned by former Mini design boss Anders Warming. Although Borgward claims that it’s an electric car, no facts or figures about the drivetrain were distributed. Read more

No more future for gasoline engines

No more future for gasoline engines: Specialists have revealed a new analysis that suggests how doomed is the gasoline engine for the automotive industry. It seems like the gasoline engine is the “horse” of the new century, a bit too old and outdated, but still a method to ride to the place you need.

<> on December 17, 2014 in London, England.

Along with a spate of recent commitments to electric vehicles by governments and car companies, the study offers hope about the prospects for weaning the transportation sector off carbon. Of more than one billion registered vehicles on the road today, only two million are electric (with one million of those in China).

Two men in their 70s die in Dodge Challenger Hellcat crash

Two close friends died in the crash of a Dodge Challenger Hellcat over the weekend after they shot off the end of an airport runway. That someone died in a 707-hp Hellcat is, sadly, not unexpected. But two aspects of the story are remarkable. First, the men’s ages: the crash victims were Lynd Fitzgerald, 71, of Colorado Springs, and his passenger, Roger Lichtenberger, 76, of San Marcos, Calif. Second, their speed: The car was likely moving at over 100 miles per hour.
The men had permission to use the 8,300-foot runway at Central Colorado Regional Airport in Buena Vista. That’s more than a mile and a half long. But when the car left the runway, it went 300 feet before flying over a ravine, hitting the ground, becoming airborne again, flipping end over end across a second ravine, and ultimately landing on its wheels 650 feet past the end of the pavement. Responding police officers tried to provide first aid, but the men were declared dead at the scene. Read more

Car reveals will soon look like the Apple iPhone X event

Car reveals will soon look like the Apple iPhone X event

Yesterday Apple revealed the new iPhone X at its new headquarters in California. Apple’s annual events are usually surrounded by weeks and months of hype and speculation, drawing massive audiences with live feeds and a sizable media presence on location. Apple controls every aspect of the event, from timing and location to attendance. Contrast that to the Frankfurt Motor Show, where dozens of press conferences confined to exact time periods are spread across a huge space. It’s a cutthroat event, with everyone vying for a slice of the public’s eye.
Auto shows are dying and soon car reveals are going to look more and more like the event we saw in Cupertino. Manufacturers are all competing against each other for a small bit of both media and public attention. Frankfurt had one real day of press conferences, with dozens of new and exciting products. Still, how is something like the new Honda Urban EV supposed to compete against something like the new Mercedes-AMG Project One? One big car can overshadow an entire show. Read more

Bugatti Chiron beats any records this time!

Bugatti Chiron beats any records this time! When it comes to a Bugatti Chiron, there’s nothing impossible! And it’s not so weird cause the car just beat any records. It went from 0 to 249 mph and back to 0 in just 42 seconds, amazing huh?

884446666e2fb3026dedc6a2e5f7f684
You can’t achieve all that much in 42 seconds. It’s not even long enough to make a decent cup of tea, and yet that’s all the Bugatti Chiron needs to go all the way from 0-400kmh (249mph), and back to a standstill. Impressed? You should be. In a test performed last month, the Chiron achieved the feat in just 41.96 seconds, bagging an SGS-TÜV Saar-approved record in the process. Of course, no one else times their cars like that so there weren’t any other cars to beat, but that’s the whole point Bugatti is making here: its cars are so fast, they need 0-400-0 times.
