The US new-vehicle fuel economy decreases in June

As it was revealed, the auto industry is concerned about the new fuel economy standards, which are going to be even tighter soon. So far, automakers have been able to meet tougher emissions and fuel economy standards. It will be more difficult soon, as between 2018 and 2025 these standards will be much tougher.


According to the research made at the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI), the US new-vehicle fuel economy decreases in June. The market share of SUVs and pickup trucks rose, while new hybrid, plug-in hybrid, electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles demand likely fell, although their sales in the U.S. have increased significantly in recent years. The U.S. sales of plug-ins, diesels and hybrids fell about 21 percent from the previous year to about 35,000 units.
