The Ford F-150 Raptor Will Use Adaptive Dampers For Better Landings

The Ford F-150 Raptor isn’t wanted for off-road capability. But, that hasn’t stopped the automaker to have a little fiddle with the hardcore pick-up truck for the 2018 model year.

The first big change is the shock absorbers. Developed by Fox, the new parts have something called “Live Valve technology that can alter the compression rates based on information gleaned from a variety of sensors on the vehicle. The sensors can even tell if you’re airborne. Should you be pulling off some mad jump, the system will know and set the dampers to maximum stiffness to best cope with the landing.

Car Dealer Tactics Stall Electric Car Sales

Car dealerships in Scandinavia, and perhaps beyond, have something against electric vehicles. That’s the conclusion of an investigation conducted by researchers in Nordic countries, where they visited car dealerships and found agents actively discouraging buying electric cars.

To conduct the investigative study, the researchers visited 82 car dealerships in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, and Finland. In two-thirds of their visits, agents steered the researchers toward gas-powered cars, sometimes dismissing electric vehicles outright. In three-fourths of the visits, vendors didn’t even inform the researchers that they sold EVs.

Porsche Built a Replica Of Its First Car, 356 Number One

The first Porsche rolled off the production line in 1948. Model 356 “No. 1 Show Car” which took two months to cover in aluminum body panels alone, done by tinsmith Friedrich Weber – marked a historic starting point for the German marque.

Although that car may be lost in time, that doesn’t mean that it’s necessarily gone for good. Almost 70 years later, the German marque has revived its first-ever vehicle in the form of a near-exact replica. The 356 “No. 1 Show Car” replica was recreated by Porsche engineers in honor of the marque’s 70th anniversary – and it looks absolutely stunning.

China Is Opening Its Car Market, But Not Enough

When President Xi Jinping announced measures to further open up China’s auto industry to foreign automakers, the global industry initially cheered. Now the cheering has stopped. As details are emerging, foreign auto executives said that this initiative was too narrow and vague to change business on the ground.

Central to Mr. Xi’s plan is that it will allow foreign automakers to own Chinese factories, instead of working through a 50-50 Chinese partner, as is currently required. But it turns out that auto executives were comfortable with the current system. Ford’s vice president, Trevor Worthington, said that it would be crazy to think that foreign car makers can do it all by themselves in a market that is so different.

Road-Going VW I.D. Hatchback Will Look A Lot Like The Concept

The production version of the Volkswagen I.D. concepts will arrive in Europe in early 2020, and it will look a lot like the show car from the 2016 Paris Motor Show. The proportions, the design cues, and the wheel size are the same as the concept.

It wasn’t possible to implement the camera-system rear-view mirrors for legal reasons, nor the electric door handles due to cost. Other than that, it’s pretty much the same. The I.D. is the size of a VW Golf and features a sleek, futuristic take on the classic five-door hatchback. The LED headlights imitate human eyes by blinking up and down at startup and a pupillike center section that moves left and right with the steering.

Trump Considering 25 Percent Tax On Car Imports

President Donald Trump has the intention to put a 25 percent tariff on imports of cars under a similar authority that allowed him to slap duties on imports of steel and aluminum in order to protect U.S. national security, a senior administration official has confirmed.

The Commerce Department, at Trump’s request, on Wednesday launched an investigation into the national threat of imported automobilestrucks and auto parts, this being the first step toward imposing the tariffs. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said in a statement that there is evidence suggesting that imports from abroad have eroded U.S. auto industry.

2019 Mercedes-AMG E53 Sedan Will Arrive In The U.S. Late This Year

Mercedes-AMG introduced the E43 model only a couple of years ago and now it’s getting ready to retire to make room for the electrified E53 family. It made its debut at the beginning of the year during the Detroit Auto Show in Coupe and Cabriolet styles before the reveal of the more practical sedan and wagon flavors last month.

Now, Mercedes announces that the E53 Sedan will be going on sale in the U.S. towards the end of the year as a 2019MY to replace the E43 Sedan and it will come along with the fancier two-door E53 models. It’s not just a name change as the new cars carrying a higher number live up to the badge by packing more punch.

Car Ownership Will Probably Dip by 2025

Most auto industry execs think that half of today’s car owners will lose interest in owning a car by 2025. Of the nearly 1,000 execs surveyed via KPMG for Business Insider Intelligence, 60 percent agree, while 22 disagree, and 8 percent strongly disagree.

That’s not very representative because it targets people who already see the value of a car and ignores millennials who may never own a vehicle. While there is some mixed opinion about millennial attitudes toward car ownership. That generation is buying fewer cars than previous generations at their age.

Ford Reveals Rally-Inspired Van

If you’re tired of never completing your deliveries on time, worry no more. Ford and the M-Sport World Rally Team have the right thing for you. It is called the Ford MS-RT Transit Custom, and it’s what happens when a van loses a bit of weight and takes up running.

The MS-RT is based on the regular Transit Custom, but it has undergone a facelift, which includes a full front bumper and grille replacement with integrated factory fog lamps, extreme front diffuser, sills, wide body arch extensions, rear diffuser and rear spoiler, as well as a smattering of stickers to complete the look.

Volvo Will Dump Diesel Starting With Next S60 Sedan

Volvo will not offer a diesel in its new S60 sedan, which will be released this spring. The new S60 will be available with a range of four-cylinder gasoline engines as well as two versions of its gasoline-electric plug-in hybrid powertrain.

This move comes as Volvo accelerates its shift toward electrified powertrains and away from diesels, which accounted for almost 80 percent of its sales in Europe last year. Diesel sales have taken a hit in Europe because of potential bans on older, more polluting cars with the powertrain and the high cost of improvements to ensure that new diesel vehicles comply with tougher European emissions regulations.

2019 Ford Everest – 2.0 Biturbo Diesel: a 10-Speed Car

Ford has unveiled an updated version of its Everest SUV in Australia, bringing a mildly revised look and extra kit. The big change, though, is the introduction of the 2.0-liter twin-turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine which was first seen on the Ranger Raptor.

The new EcoBlue mill serves up 213 PS and 500 Nm of torque from just 1,750 Nm. It is paired to a Getrag 10R80 10-speed automatic transmission with a wider ratio span that improves refinement and performance, on and off road. Towing capacity has also increased slightly, from 3,000 to 3,100 kg. This engine and transmission combination results in a combined fuel consumption figure of as low as 6.9 liters per 100km on the Trend 4×2. The old 3.2-liter TDCi Duratorq five e-pot turbodiesel remains a standard fitment on the base Ambiente and Trend.

Ford Resumes F-150 Production After Extraordinary Efforts

Despite a massive fire at the Meridian Magnesium Products facility in Eaton Rapids, Michigan, Ford’s Dearborn Truck Plant will resume F-150 production on Friday, May 17th. Ford officials say that the supply chain for the Super Duty is also restored, which should lead to production restarting at the Kentucky Truck Plant by Monday, May 21st. The Kansas City Assembly Plant is also scheduled to resume work by May 21st.

After the May 2nd fire, Ford teams addressed safety concerns and restored electricity as quickly as they could. Their goal was to retrieve and relocate tools so production could resume, and the impact of the stalled plants could be reduced to minimum. The teams removed 19 dies (tools that are used to cut and shape material using a press) from Meridian’s fire-damaged plant. They moved an 87,000 lbs. die from Eaton Rapids, Michigan to Nottingham, U.K. in 30 hours, while in normal circumstances this procedure would take 10 days.

2019 Subaru Crosstrek PHEV: Company's First Plug-In Hybrid

Subaru announced its first plug-in hybrid vehicle, and it will come in the form of its third-best-selling car, the Crosstrek. This is fitting in a couple ways: it’s a quick selling vehicle and the Crosstrek was the model used for Subaru’s first conventional hybrid, introduced for the 2014 model year. The company did not reveal any photos yet.

The Crosstrek PHEV will also have something in common with the Subaru BRZ in the sense that it will benefit from Toyota’s technology. The company said that the hybrid system comes from Toyota. The crossover, like many other PHEVs, will be capable of driving in full-EV mode and in conventional hybrid mode. The company hasn’t announced yet how much range it will have.

Keyless Cars Caused Dozens of Deaths in the US

A report made by New York Times found that dozens of people have been poisoned by carbon monoxide since 2006 after failing to turn off the ignition on their keyless cars. More exactly, 28 of them died and 45 others suffered injuries.

More than half of the vehicles sold annually in the US now have keyless ignitions. The keyless ignition system consists of a device that is carried by the driver, allowing him to start the car with a press of a button linked to the fob. If the key fob is not detected the car will not start. However, if the car has been started it will continue to run even if the device is removed from the vehicle.

Toyota Presents Production Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus Sora

Toyota began in Japan production and sales of its hydrogen fuel cell buses called Sora that share technology with Mirai. Same as with other fuel cell vehicles, production volume is very small, Toyota announced that 100 units will be delivered in the Tokyo metropolitan area by 2020 for the Olympic games.

Sora is equipped with two FC stacks 114 kW each that provide electricity for the two 113 kW AC synchronous electric motors. For the small drive battery, Toyota still uses NiMH. The 34.5 feet long bus fits 79 people (22 seated, 56 standing, and the driver). The range on 10 tanks of hydrogen (600 liters working at 70 Mpa nominal pressure) is comparable to conventional buses.

Audi Plans To Launch 20 Electrified Models By 2025

At its annual meeting, Audi announced an ambitious plan to make 20 new electric vehicles by 2025, most of them battery electrics. The car maker says that it will invest $47.6 billion into electrified cars, a new app platform for its cars, a new fleet of autonomous vehicles, and creating sustainable factories. The investment represents about two years of revenue for the company.

As a first step, Audi announced that it will reveal the production version of its new e-Tron electric SUV on August 30. It should have 300-mile range and slots between the size of the current Q5 and Q7. It will be one of the fastest charging cars on the market. The automaker also plans to introduce a high-performance e-Tron GT sedan and a compact car in 2020, which will be followed by two more electric SUVs in 2021. In total, Audi is planning to sell 800,000 electrified vehicles by 2025.

Pope’s Huracan sold out for $861K

Pope’s Huracan sold out for $861K: We knew that Pope’s Huracan was set to be sold at RM Sotheby’s Monaco sale, but who would’ve thought it would be sold at such an incredibly good price?

f00c6f0d874d43b5fd257da9bded32c9a1f78ea7.jpg
The supercar fetched an impressive $861,575. That was a lot higher than early speculations, given the cost of a standard, non-holy Lamborghini Huracan. Besides being blessed by the world’s top Catholic, this Huracan also boasts a number of exclusive features fitted by Ad Personam, Lamborghini’s bespoke division that deals with special options and one-off commissions.

Waymo won’t be spending millions on assembly plants

Waymo won’t be spending millions on assembly plants: Everyone’s wondering what would a Google-branded vehicle be like. And it turns out that Waymo won’t be spending millions spending billions on assembly plants and the development of its own vehicles and platforms. The company is partnering with automakers to use their cars and trucks to showcase its technology brand and develop a lineup of vehicles.

waymo-driverless-car-1-980x620.jpg
The brand-building approach takes a page from the old Saleen and Shelby works, tuners and stylists of limited-edition, high-performance vehicles based on Ford Mustangs and pickups. But it's a more democratic version of that concept. The idea is that a Waymo-branded vehicle can be whatever you want it to be: a minivan or a sedan, an EV or an SUV.

DS Announces Its New Flagship With Spectacular Design

Since it became a standalone brand, DS has been trying to distance itself from Peugeot and Citroën by transforming into a luxury brand with an exclusive design and more premium touches. The arrivals of the new models, such as the DS 7 Crossback and the DS 3 Crossbackstrengthen the presence of the company in the automotive spectrum, but what DS really needs is a proper flagship model.

DS 8 should arrive sometime in 2020, and it will rival with BMW 5 SeriesAudi A6, and the Mercedes E-Class. However, unlike these three, the new jewel of the DS range will not take the shape of a conventional sedan. Instead, the designers at DS are going for a more stylish fastback, which will hopefully have a few things in common with the stunning 2012 Citroen Numero 9 concept we display here.

Car Companies Started Offering Monthly Subscriptions for Drivers

About a third of the 17 million cars expected to be sold in the U.S. this year are leased. The rest of them are purchased. However, there’s a new option for drivers coming in 2018 – car subscriptions. It is addressed to people that do not want to own a car but want to have access to a range of cars whenever they want.

So, by paying a monthly fee to access a variety of vehicles they can change up when they want. The flat fee starts from $400 and gets to as much as $3,700, depending on the company, and most often comes with insurance, maintenance, roadside assistance, pickup, and drop-off. And in most cases, the subscription can be ended at any time. Today the vehicle subscription is in the 100,000 to 150,000 range, but it has a potential in the next 12 to 18 months to grow into millions.

Rolls-Royce Cullinan might be the best SUV ever

Rolls-Royce Cullinan might be the best SUV ever: Meet and greet the new SUV Rolls-Royce Cullinan. The product of a car-buying customer demand for a high-riding, rough stuff-capable machine that somehow encapsulates the finest airs and graces of Edwardian-era Great Britain and teams them not only with the outstanding technical prowess developed through the 2010s, but also its most infectious and omnipresent design trends.

2019-rolls-royce-cullinan-2
The Cullinan is a response to that; a conscious effort to keep Rolls’ products current in a world where everyone from the minimum wage worker to the wealthiest oil baron wants an SUV. Persevering with saloons, however lovely, was the wrong choice.

Auto Shows Looking for New Strategies to Stay Relevant

Auto Shows Looking for New Strategies to Stay Relevant: In 2011 BMW had unveiled its M5 sports sedan at the Frankfurt auto show. The car had to win the attention within 50 other production vehicles debuting at the event. Six years later, the automaker decides to choose a different way of promoting its new generation M5. The car has been revealed in a video game.

2017-E-SEDAN-63S-AMG-FUTURE-GALLERY-004-WR-D.jpg
BMW's strategy, unthinkable only a few years ago, illustrates how the digital era is transforming the way automakers introduce vehicles. The shift has left many of the big international auto shows grasping for answers as brands increasingly connect with consumers through Instagram and YouTube instead.

Uber's 'Skyport' Plans Look Like Science Fiction

Uber’s flying taxi service plans to launch its first takeoffs by 2023. One major problem, though, is that UberAir taxis need access to the sky and a place to land. That’s where Skyports will be useful. These will be special areas localized specifically for launching, landing, and customer pickup, and they look very futuristic.

In the second day of Uber’s Elevate Summit 2018, the company revealed concepts for its air taxi ports. Even if the project is in an early development stage, Uber plans to support over 4,000 passengers per hour for each Skyport. Initial blueprints come from Corgan, an architecture firm that wants to transform urban air mobility with a system that they call Connect, and it should be able to support up to 1,000 Uber eVTOLs (Electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing) each hour.
